Method and limitations

The calculator intentionally does not use fixed 90-minute sleep cycles. Sleep timing varies between people and from night to night, so simple arithmetic can help organize a schedule but cannot determine when you are in REM, Core, Deep, or Awake sleep.
What the Apple Watch Sleep app actually does
Apple’s Sleep features let you set a sleep goal, bedtime, wake-up time, alarm, Wind Down period, and Sleep Focus. When Track Sleep with Apple Watch is enabled and the watch is worn to bed, Apple Watch can estimate sleep duration and sleep stages. Start with the part of your schedule that is least flexible. If your alarm must ring at a particular time, use Bedtime and enter that wake-up time. If you are free to choose an alarm after going to bed, use Wake-up and enter your planned bedtime. Finding sleep information in Apple Health
To review sleep history, open the Health app on your iPhone and tap Browse, then Sleep. Apple provides views for sleep duration, sleep stages, sleep schedules, and related comparisons. You can also review Sleep Score if it is available on your device and software version.
Apple says the Sleep app can show the time spent asleep and sleep-stage estimates after you wear the watch to bed. Understanding Apple Watch Sleep Score
Apple’s Sleep Score is a separate feature from this planning calculator. Apple documents a 0 to 100 score based on estimated sleep duration, bedtime consistency, and interruptions. Choosing a practical sleep duration
Use a sleep duration that is realistic for your age, health, schedule, and personal experience. For broad public-health context, the CDC says adults generally need at least seven hours of sleep, while recommended amounts vary by age. Does this calculator find the best bedtime?
No. It calculates a possible schedule from the values you enter. “Best” depends on your sleep need, obligations, routine, environment, and health. The calculator does not know your sleep stage or guarantee that a suggested time will improve your morning.
Does Apple Watch know when I fall asleep?
Apple Watch can estimate sleep-related information when Sleep Tracking is enabled and the watch is worn to bed. The estimate is not the same as a direct clinical measurement, and the calculator does not automatically import it from Apple Health.
Should I use 90-minute sleep cycles?

Can this tool tell whether my alarm wakes me from Deep sleep?
